Restorative dentistry has certainly come a long way over the years, and our goal as our Pensacola, FL, family dentist, Dr. JenniferTooth-Colored Fillings Georgiades, is to make sure that you get a dental restoration that not only protects your smile for a long time but also offers cosmetic benefits, as well. This is why we offer our patients composite resin fillings.

What are composite fillings?

Dental fillings are designed to fill and restore a tooth after a cavity. When our Pensacola dentist detects the presence of a cavity, the decayed areas of the tooth will need to be removed. Of course, once we have drilled away the damaged enamel we will need a material that will be able to reshape and strengthen the tooth. This is where dental fillings come into play.

When it comes to getting a dental filling, most people want a restoration that will blend right into the rest of the tooth. While metal amalgam fillings won’t be able to offer this benefit, composite resin filling can. Composite resin is a moldable tooth-colored material that can be just as reliable for rebuilding a tooth post-cavity but with the aesthetic benefits to boot.

Before we place the dental filling we will even match the shade of the resin to your tooth so that it matches as closely as possible. The great thing about dental fillings, besides strengthening the tooth, is that no one will even know that you have one.

How is a composite filling placed?

A dental filling will be applied to the tooth during the same procedure in which we drill away the decay. Once decay has been removed we will apply the first layer of the resin. We will contour and shape it until it looks perfect. Then we will use a dental ultraviolet light to harden the resin in place. We will continue to apply layer after layer of this resin until the restoration is complete.
